Wulfson Arranges Acquisition of Unique
Giuseppe Guarneri del Gesù Cello
Eduard Wulfson Becomes First European Patron & First Directory of European
Operations for The Stradivari Society®
Eduard Wulfson, artistic director of the international Chateau
de Champs Masterclasses for violinists held each summer outside of Paris,
has become the Society's first European Director of European Operations.
The esteemed violinist and professor, well-known for his coaching of international
soloists, last year orchestrated the purchase of the only existent Giuseppe
Guarneri del Gesù cello, 1731, "Messeas." Shortly thereafter,
Wulfson, on behalf of The Stradivari Society, loaned this exceptional
instrument to the acclaimed cellist David Geringas. "I am very proud
to be the Society's first European patron and first European director
of operations," said Wulfson.
Acquisition of the del Gesù evolved from Wulfson's great mutual admiration
and friendship with Geoffrey Fushi, he explained. "I admire his great
achievements with his partner, Robert Bein, as world-leading violin experts
and dealers. When Geoffrey mentioned the existence of the unique and superb
only existent cello by del Gesù," related Wulfson. "I was so
surprised about such a sensational discovery that I asked to see the cello.
I immediately fell in love with the wonderful sound and the gorgeous,
divine projection of this instrument, as did David," remarked Wulfson,
who quickly developed the financial structure to acquire the rare cello.

The Chateau de Champs Masterclasses
Geoffrey Fushi's visits to Paris gave him the opportunity to watch
a video recording of Wulfson's impressive masterclasses at Chateau de
Champs, a fabulous castle which once belonged to Madame Pompadour. With
his friend Jean-Claude Menou, director of the castle, Wulfson invites
great artists to participate in the masterclasses. Last year, the esteemed
guest artists included the outstanding violinists Ida Haendel and Vadim
Repin, who is also a Stradivari Society recipient. The festival regularly
attracts the very best teachers, including outstanding Belgian violinist
Michaél Guttman and Cyrus Forough, distinguished Chicago violin teacher.
Wulfson's assistant, Yuko Mori, was recently appointed to the faculty
of Roosevelt University. "I combine all generations, and I try always
to introduce new types of teaching, with a concern for the students and
the music," explained Wulfson.

Wulfson is also heading a new consulting office, Strings Unlimited,
which will play a very important role in reaching out and nurturing the
most talented new musicians. Many of the great musicians of today,
including Ida Haendel, Vadim Repin, David Geringas, Michaél Guttman
(first violin with the Arriaga Quartet), and Pavel Vernikov (member of
the renowned Europe Trio), will be collaborating with Wulfson in this
new venture, which opened in Paris in January 2000. Strings Unlimited is
advising musicians in such aspects of professional life as how to
prepare for important concerts and international competitions, how to be
coached, and how to choose an instrument.

A
Spectacular Recital Held at Bein & Fushi
A special performance for solo violin held in January 2000 was planned
by Wulfson in collaboration with The Stradivari Society to introduce his
extraordinarily talented pupil, Kristof Barati, to Chicago. Barati has
received the highest praise from Ida Haendel: "Kristof is certainly one
of the most talented violinists of this or any generation. He is
unique-in his tone, beautiful sound, natural musicality, taste, and
elegance. He is a soloist." And from Vadim Repin: "Kristof is an
unbelievable talent. He will have a great career."
